The Purple People Eater (fri 6/3)

So, here I am at Cosmic, celebrating my second interview with another tasty treat: the Purple People Eater.

WARNING: I do not like eggplant; it's a texture issue above taste.  But in order to provide a fair, unbiased food blog I should be willing to try anything.

So here's the skinny:  omelette stuffed with fried eggplant, mozz cheese, marinara and... wait for it... bacon.  It was suprizingly good!  Nice crispy eggplant and a chicken parm flavor that suits the eggs.  And bacon is thre spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down.  As an added bonus, Tiff had some zucchini bread left, so i snagged a piece.  Verdict?  Sweet and subtle.

So what to say now? I hope I get the job so I can keep eating, or this was a waste.

Till then...

Cosmic Omelet (fri 5/27)

Omelet of the (end of the) week: the Aloha

Mozzarella, diced ham, pineapple. simple and tasty.  Oh, and as a special treat?  Tiffany made cinnamon rolls w/ cream cheese frosting. Effin' tasty.

So, lets talk, how are the mundys gonna tackle Aloha at home? Two words: hot griddle.

If you can't get fresh pineapple, get chunked from the grocer in the produce or take away section.  that canned stuff might not cut it; you're gonna want to rinse and drain.  Also, get one of those single ham steaks from the meats section.  If you want to be fancy, grill the pineapple (a little char and the heat really brings out the sugar even from not-quite-ripe pineapple (if you can smell it, it's good).  also, if yer grilling fruit, get the ham there too.  If yer looking past shredded bagged mozz, get two large from the olive bar, drain , dry and shred. Don't be shy with the cheese.
Now I can't tell you the secrets of the perfect omelet from the egg perspective, without Traci's blessing, but IMll give you a hint: you don't need water or milk.  Just eggs.  But if yer in CT, anywhere in Hartford county, and especially if you've crossed state lines to nosh at Corey's Catsup & Mustard, come one morning to Cosmic Omelet right down the road.

Anyways, tasty with a little hot sauce, Aloha was great.  Next post will be under the official weekly Cosmic blog here, the Purple People Eater!

Trivia @ Main Pub (thu 5/26)

You know,
I was really hoping to start off with a post about Cosmic. Tracy inspired me to start the blog (amongst others) and CO really is my favorite place to eat these days. But I really need to talk about this sandwich!

Ham, turkey, swiss (or was it Vermont Cheddar? correction when i go back), sliced thin and pressed between two fluffy pieces of french toast...

That's right, the Great Grundy got a Monte Cristo, and Edmund Dantes was a genius.  This sandwich was great, with a little maple syrup for dipping. What a completely satisfying treat...the ONLY thing I'd do to improve it would be to kiss that cheese with the slightest hint of a good coarse pub mustard or dijon before grilling. Just a little romance on such a sweet date.
The potato salad was good too... roughly chopped chunks of skin on (russetts?) potato, boiled just right, dressed with a little mayo (or was it sour cream mixed, i'll find out next visit) and I think, just a little pepper. It was really satisifactory for something so simple.

Well, we still only played middle of the pack, but I feel good going into my second week on the team.  And besides, the Sox beat ass last night, again. Whaler Ale rounded out the meal as a special, but this tasty little sandwhich and hearty simple potato salad really would go well with any red ale in my opinion.

Main Pub, you have not failed to impress!

till the table's set, adios!
